MEHMET ZORLU FOUNDATION
GIVING LIFE TO YOUNGSTERS’ DREAMS
Established in the name of Zorlu Holding’s founder Mehmet Zorlu with a commitment to give back to society, Mehmet Zorlu Education, Health, Culture, and Solidarity Foundation (MZV) went operational on 25 April 1999. Its founders were Zorlu Holding Chairman Ahmet Zorlu and Co-chairman Zeki Zorlu.
Education stands out as the primary field of investment of the foundation whose areas of activities include culture/arts, solidarity, and health.
Acting upon the belief that Turkey’s future lies in the hands of educated generations, Zorlu family, via the MZV, works to provide financial backing to, meet the needs of, and support the personal development of youths who are successful in school but lack the wherewithal to continue their education.
SCHOLARSHIP FOR 1,700 STUDENTS A YEAR
The MZV gave scholarship to 1,718 university and high school students during the 2013-2014 academic year. It also supports the education of successful and students in need through several special projects. The importance the MZV attaches to the future is evident in the growing amount of scholarship it gives which totals approximately 12,000 so far.
BUILDING MODERN SCHOOLS FOR OUR FUTURE
In addition to providing scholarships, the MZV builds modern schools in different parts of Turkey to ensure that the children and youths who are the future of Turkey are educated under better conditions.
In 1991, before the MZV went into operation, Zorlu Holding built and handed over to the Ministry of National Education the Haji Mehmet Zorlu Multi-program High School in Babadağ where its family origins lie and the Saide Zorlu Anatolian Vocational School for Commerce in Avcılar, Istanbul.

The theater troupe travels to all cities in Turkey, staging plays and puppet shows especially for poor children. The troupe works to reach broader audiences with new plays every year. Zorlu Children’s Theater is justifiably proud to have introduced 45,000 children to theater by staging 86 performances in 21 provinces during the 2013-2014 season.
UN GLOBAL COMPACT
One of the fundamental goals of Zorlu Holding is to raise Turkey’s vision higher in human rights, working conditions, the environment, and ethics in every area of operation. Utilizing resources in the most efficient manner and designing each step we take by giving due consideration to the future in every area where we produce, come foremost among the factors guiding our decision-making procedures.
At Zorlu Holding, we manage our economic, social, environmental, and ethical codes with our identity of corporate sustainability. We are aware that resources are not infinite; therefore, we work in observance of the rules of ethics in order to heighten the quality of human lives and to preserve the equilibrium between nature and resources. These values have been defining our work ethics from day one and enable us to carry on successfully in our journey that has been going on for longer than half a century.
The United Nations Global Compact, to which we have become a party as an indication of our commitment to our objectives, makes a significant contribution to us in institutionalizing this approach.
Continually expanding since 2000, the UN Global Compact comprises 10 principles concerning human rights, working conditions, the environment, and fighting corruption. These principles are formulated from a guiding perspective to enable businesses and organizations to attain higher goals in risk management, increased productivity, employee motivation and loyalty, working conditions, brand consciousness, and access to new markets.
WOMEN'S EMPOWERMENT PRINCIPLES
As Zorlu Holding, we advocate equal rights for men and women in all areas of life and we support all effort aimed at the empowerment of women in society, business life and the economic realm. We believe the collaboration of minds and talents foster innovative ideas and we brace our corporate policy with practices that encourage societal gender equality.
